My daughter's teacher read this to her class, my daughter loved it she decided to be Camilla for Book Character day.

My first memory I have of this is book is of me stealing my sister's copy from our shared bookshelf and hiding it in my room, so I could keep it for myself. I loved it that much. I couldn't remember why I loved it so much until revisited it as an adult. I was not only addicted to the fun colors, but I also loved the meaning behind this story. The story is about a girl named Camilla Cream who is afraid of liking things that her friends don't like. So, she gets taught a lesson by having pattern-changing skin. When she goes to school after figuring out she is not physically ill, she finds that everyone laughs at her. Her skin patterns ends up dramatizing what's its like for people to laugh at you, even when you're different. It teaches kids that no matter what, not everyone is going to like you or your choices, but it's worth it to just be yourself. I feel like this is a fantastic lesson to engrain in kids' heads early because once they hit middle school, being liked by everyone usually becomes top priority. Thinking back on my own middle school life though, I never seemed to care what people thought of my wardrobe choices. I felt confident (most of the time) and enjoyed being gawked at in the halls for wearing odd things. They weren't super weird clothing, it was just different. I'm going to pretend like this book helped me become who I am today and who knows, maybe it did.

I love this story. My kids want me to read it over and over again. It's a fun adventure about a girl named Camille who loves lima beans. She doesn't want to be made fun of for liking lima beans so she doesn't eat them. In doing so, she starts to have weird, colorful, and crazy things happen to her body. In the end, she realizes it's better to be herself.

The story is very clever, with beautiful writing. The illustrations are gorgeous, each page a painting. The author presents the moral lesson without demeaning the protagonist, supporting characters or the reader. It's a timeless story and one of the best I've read in a long time. There is much fodder within the pages for discussion with your children afterwards. (Hardcover edition)

My second graders absolutely loved this story. They were apparently read to by the substitute on a day I was away from work, and they didn't tell her that they had already listened to it at all. They loved the story so much that it was good enough for a second reading. A+ in my book!

I have to defend this book since my 3 and 5 year old daughters absolutely love it and its illustrations. My daughters love pictures and books with anything related to fantasy. It may help that we don't have a TV in the house so they don't know what is scary or not (at least not yet). They actually found the illustrations to be hilarious and I personally love the story line.

My sister recently had a baby and I am slowly accumulating all my favorite books from my childhood to give to her. This is one of the first ones to get. It is hilarious and the colors are vibrant. Also teaches that you should eat things that your mom gives you even if you dont like the look of them.Book arrived in great condition!

My daughter is 3. Since getting this book - along with many others- this has become her go to favorite book! She even wanted to try Lima beans after reading it (didn’t like them, but oh well she tried!). She really picked up on the message of how important it is to just be yourself and to be proud of who you are even if you’re different from other people. This is a great book!
